The Guide To Our Opponents - Raith Rovers

Stadium - Starks Park, Kirkcaldy
Colours - Blue shirts, white shorts
Nickname - The Rovers

Player to Watch - Paquito

Won the Second Division championship and started the season in the First full of promise. That fell away pretty quickly and the Rovers found themselves fighting for survival (unlike their miserable effort in 2002). With a few games left, they held onto their place in the league. Internal changes meant that Antonio Calderon made way for Claude Anelka, the agent/dj/handyman brother of Nicolas. The charismatic Frenchman has had no professional coaching experience, but has a certificate (aw, that'll help, won't it!!). Yet again, a bevvy of young foreigners has come through the door hoping to impress, either by playing good football or crippling the oppostion (a more likely assumption judging by what the previous foreign "stars" did).

TRAVELLING TO KIRKCALDY

By Road
Take M8 to the end then follow the A90/M90 over the Forth Road Bridge. Exit M90 at junction 3 or Junction 3 (Halbeath interchange) if you're travelling south. Head east along the Fife Regional Road until the first Kirkcaldy turn off (signposted Football Traffic) and turn right at roundabout.

Follow signs for the Town Centre, taking third exit at next roundabout and follow this road until it reaches another roundabout, opposite the railway station. Turn right at this roundabout then right again at the mini-roundabout. This leads you to a big roundabout at the entrance to the Beveridge Park and you should take the second exit off the roundabout and start looking for parking. You'll see the floodlights ahead of you.

Adequate parking at the north end of the ground can be found either at the Beveridge Park or near Balwearie High School (first right after the park, signposted Football parking.) Alternative parking can be found on the prom if you drive past Stark's Park and turn left at the mini-roundabout at the bottom of Pratt Street. The parking is 300-400 metres on the right.

By Rail
Kirkcaldy is on the East Coast main line and the station is 10-15 minutes walk from the ground. Forget buses, as it is quite complicated.

RECOMMENDED PUBS FOR VISITING SUPPORTERS

STARK'S BAR - The word 'handy' could have been invented to desribe this pub's location. Needless to say it gets busy on a saturday afternoon though. A real Rovers fans pub, situated just a stones, the Stark's Bar is a popular haunt, not just for the many Rovers fans who visit regularly, but also for visiting supporters who help pack the pub before games. Banter galore. To be found at 362 Links Street.

NOVAR BAR - Just up the road from the Raith end of the High Street. This is a great wee pub, usually full of Raith fans but no neds. The beer is good and the food (well, snacks really) is cheap but be careful about playing the machine -it's tighter than Fergus McCann's mum. Located at 17 Nicol Street.

FAMOUS FROM KIRKCALDY/FOR RAITH ? -

The smell, Fife Flyers, Links Market, Jocky Wilson, Jacky O's, thousands of people having the same picture of a scoreboard in Munich. Gordon Brown, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, is a big Rovers fan and is always looking for the scores even when on Government business. Ewan McGregor also studied here.

EX BAIRNS -

GOD FORBID THEY GO THERE!
